BANGKOK, THAILAND -- Zheng Jie of China and Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia, two of the leading contenders at this year’s US$220,000 PTT Pattaya Open, WTA professional women tennis tournament have started the season in fine style in Australia. They will be looking to continue their hot streak into the PTT Pattaya Open which will be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya from 5 – 12 February 2012.
China’s Zheng Jie who began to find her form at the end of 2011 with semi-final appearances in Guangzhou and Osaka has started this year with a bang by winning the title at the WTA event in Auckland, New Zealand, beating Flavia Pennetta of Italy in the final. At the same time she has leapt 10 places in the world rankings to no 38. Daniela Hantuchova has also been in excellent form in the opening tour events of 2012 in Australia. She reached the final in Brisbane before losing to Kaia Kanepi of Estonia. Her passage to the final moved her up to No 21 in the rankings. She has been in action again this week reaching the quarter-finals in Sydney before falling to World No 2 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.
The 16-draw qualifying competition will be held on 5 – 6 February 2012, with main draw matches commencing on 7 February with play starting from 15.00 daily, including the finals on Sunday 12 February. Tickets are available at 300, 500, 800 and 1,200 baht.
